The Kyle Sloter Show will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday with fitting fanfare — the flames, the cheers, the tunnel of high-fives. The undrafted rookie out of Northern Colorado will get his day as the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos, a dream not even he could have pictured eight months ago.

“I always believed I had the talent. It was just a matter of putting it on tape and getting that opportunity,” he said. “Up until I started getting calls in December, I was about to take a job in January as a financial adviser just because I didn’t know what people were thinking. Right after the season, I got my first couple of calls from NFL teams and thought I should take a harder look at it.”

The Broncos added Sloter to their roster after the draft to provide depth and competition in training camp, to learn and watch, to earn repetitions in preseason and put his play on film as two other quarterbacks — Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch — duked it out for the starting gig and a third, Chad Kelly, recovered from injuries.

The Broncos didn’t envision a Sloter following that reached wild heights after the preseason opener at Chicago, where he went 5-of-6 in passing for 94 yards, a touchdown and perfect 158.3 passer rating in the fourth quarter. (You know you’ve made it when your fans have a hashtag, #TeamSloter.)

And they certainly couldn’t have planned for their latest quarterback quandary, as Lynch nurses a shoulder sprain that could keep him sidelined for several weeks, moving Sloter into the starting spot Thursday night.

The Broncos have had to make adjustments on the fly, and although Sloter has impressive during the preseason, the team’s broad plan remains in effect. Thursday’s game against Arizona will be four quarters of Sloter. After that, the Broncos will examine the possibility of adding a quarterback when some 1,200 players hit the free-agent market at week’s end.

“Right now, with Paxton, it’s a short-term issue,” head coach Vance Joseph said Monday. “Every option is going to be explored.”cheap jerseys from china free shipping

One viable option is to sign a veteran who is cut as rosters are finalized Saturday. Another option is to keep Sloter as the backup for the first week of the regular season, then seek outside help for the second week and beyond, until Lynch is healthy.

“We’re not sure. Every option is going to be explored,” Joseph reiterated Tuesday. “Obviously Saturday, Sunday are going to be big days for the league. So we’ll address that then.”

Adding another quarterback requires the Broncos to use a coveted roster spot. The original plan called for two on the roster, Siemian and Lynch. Not a third, who take a roster spot that would otherwise go to maybe a receiver or a tight end.

“I’m not sure. That’s more for Saturday, Sunday. My mind’s not there yet, to be honest,” Joseph said. “We got a game to play and something is going to happen Thursday night that’s going to shift our thinking. So I’m not there yet to decide on numbers.”

Adding a vested veteran for the opening-day roster would require the team to pay him his salary for the full season.

Thursday will be the final showcase for many players vying for spots among the final 53 as well as the 10-player practice squad that can be formed starting Sunday. Sloter is in the running for both, and likes his chances for the former.

“I think that’s a possibility, but that’s not within my control,” he said. “That’s up to them. My job is just to go out there and do the best that I can, and I’m really just playing, like they say, for a job.”

But his performance won’t be the only deciding factor as the Broncos look ahead.

The plan remains. Just tweaked.

Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade reportedly hasn’t spoken to his team’s front office for some time.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype cited a source Tuesday who said Wade hasn’t talked with Chicago’s front office since the team traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves in June.

Kennedy noted the Bulls and Wade have not yet engaged in contract buyout talks, but they are expected to happen before the 2017-18 season begins.

The 35-year-old Wade is set to make $23.8 million in the 2017-18 campaign, per Spotrac, and keeping him long term doesn’t make much sense for a Bulls team that embarked upon a rebuild when it traded its centerpiece in Butler.

However, Dan Feldman of NBC Sports noted Chicago has an incentive to hold onto Wade until the trade deadline, as the team could use his expiring contract in a move. “If no trade comes up and Chicago is out of the playoff race, as expected, a buyout would make far more sense,” Feldman wrote.

Kennedy’s report comes after’s Joe Vardon said on the Wine and Gold Talk podcast (via Feldman) that “people close to [LeBron] James are fairly confident that, at some point this year, Dwyane Wade is going to end up on the Cavs.”

If Wade and Chicago’s front office do find themselves speaking again the near future and agree on a buyout, the three-time defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers make sense as a potential destination.

Wade could serve as a veteran leader for a team with championship aspirations, and he’s already accustomed to playing alongside James since they won two championships together with the Miami Heat.

Despite the incessant rumors of a possible move to the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat, shooting guard Dwyane Wade has not talked to the Chicago Bulls’ brass since the team traded former teammate Jimmy Butler, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype.

The 12-time All-Star is expected to engage in buyout talks with the organization before the start of the regular season, though.

Wade could become one of the hottest free agent commodities after a frenzied offseason that has seen an all-time high in salaries and plenty of moves to keep NBA fans entertained.

The 35-year-old is owed a whopping $24 million for next season and would have to take a major shave off that amount to make a buyout possible, in light of the rebuilding process the franchise has chosen to undergo.

Wade was rumored to be looking for a comeback to the Miami Heat, but the South Beach backcourt is jam-packed with six players between the two guard spots, making this a potential logjam if Wade was to arrive as a free agent acquisition. Miami has chosen to go young and build around cornerstone Hassan Whiteside, making Wade’s potential homecoming a rather aesthetic move than a functional one.

LeBron James’ camp is expecting Wade to join the Cleveland Cavaliers at some point this upcoming season, but the process will be a painful one with the Cavs’ proverbial hands tied to their salary tax situation and the Bulls unlikely to cut Wade any slack in the buyout process, hoping to take the least amount possible contractually to put him on the free agent wire.

While nothing between Wade and the Bulls has gotten started, talks could soon begin, ensuing a league-wide race for his services.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has appealed his six-game suspension for violating the N.F.L.’s personal-conduct policy, making him the latest star to push back against the league for the way it has penalized players.

If the N.F.L. does not reduce the suspension, Elliott could sue the league in federal court, setting the stage for a potentially protracted showdown like the one between the N.F.L. and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, which lasted more than a year.

cheap chinese sports jerseysLast week, Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Elliott, who led the N.F.L. in rushing yards last season, his rookie year. The decision came after a yearlong investigation by the league into Elliott’s behavior during a six-day stretch in July 2016 in which his ex-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson accused him of assaulting her five times in Columbus, Ohio, where he played at Ohio State.

Elliott was not arrested or charged because a prosecutor concluded that Thompson’s statements conflicted with those made by Elliott and witnesses.

The N.F.L. now has 10 business days to schedule a hearing. In the past, Goodell has reduced suspensions when players have admitted fault. If the suspension is not changed, Elliott and the National Football League Players Association could file a claim in court that accuses the league of overstepping its authority.

“We will represent Ezekiel, as we do all players, to ensure that the N.F.L. is held to its obligation of adhering to principles of industrial due process under the collective bargaining agreement,” the union said in a statement.

Winning in court might be difficult. Two years ago, a federal judge blocked the four-game suspension that Brady received for his alleged role in a scheme to deflate footballs used in games. But that decision was overturned on appeal, and Brady was forced to sit out the first four games last season. Other players, including New Orleans Saints running back Adrian Peterson, had results similar to Brady’s.

All eyes will be on Jaylon Smith as he makes his long-awaited debut when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Indianapolis Colts Saturday.

Owner Jerry Jones told reporters that the linebacker will play in the upcoming preseason game.

It will be Smith’s first game since suffering a torn ACL and nerve damage before being drafted in the second-round last season.

Smith’s knee and the question of whether or not his nerve is regenerating have accounted for endless headlines since he was drafted by the Cowboys. Some, including Jones himself, wondered if the knee would ever get healthy enough to where Smith could be an effective NFL player.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. The team eased Smith into camp workouts and now he is ready to go. How many snaps he plays remains unknown.

A Cowboys defense that lost several pieces this offseason, and had several more suspended to start the season, desperately needs Smith to be 100 percent when Dallas opens the regular season versus the New York Giants.

Soccer has long been one of the jewels of Texas A&M athletics under coach G. Guerrieri. Now, one of the NFL’s all-time jewels will be in the crowd this summer and fall intently watching the Aggies.

Rheagen Smith, daughter of NFL all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith, is a freshman on the A&M soccer team. She starred at the Greenhill School in Addison, cheap jerseys China and grew up in Carrollton. Her dad couldn’t be prouder of Rheagen’s achievements to date – and he’s also enamored with the number she’ll wear for the Aggies.

cheap jerseys china free shippingThe old No. 22 posted on Twitter on Wednesday: “Reppin #22 and letting the games begin!!” Emmitt Smith, who starred at Florida in the late 1980s but is obviously happy his daughter chose to stay closer to home for college, also attached a couple of pictures of Rheagen in her A&M uniform with teammates.

The Aggies begin their season with a couple of home exhibition games against Sam Houston State and Northwestern (La.) State on Sunday and Aug. 10, respectively, before opening on the road against Pepperdine in San Diego on Aug. 18. A&M is one of five teams in the nation to make the last 22 NCAA Tournaments, all under Guerrieri.

It was a huge back-to-school bash for the Dallas school district with free food, free haircuts, and, biggest of all, free uniforms. It was all planned and put on by Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities!

“My mom always told me, and bless her soul who is no longer with us, no matter how high you go, never forget where you come from,” Smith said. “And always extend a helping hand to someone in need and in this country we have such a great need especially with younger people.”

It’s been 27 years since Emmitt first arrived in Big D as a Cowboy, but all these years later he’s still a staple of the community.

“God has blessed me, period,” he said. “To win three [Super Bowls] out of 4 years was awesome. To become the all-time leading rusher is awesome. To become a Hall of Famer is awesome. All that is awesome. So what do you do with it? Do you keep it to yourself or do you share it with others? And that is what Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities is trying to do is share it with others.”

And it’s not just one former Cowboy out doing good works. Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman are huge in the charity scene, as well as Tony Dorsett and so many others. Not to mention all the work the current stars do during their free time.

So whether or not the Boys are out there winning on Sundays this year, there are kids going to school with fresh new uniforms and food at home, all thanks to a former Cowboys star. And that’s a much bigger deal than any Super Bowl trophy.
